Magnificent Simplicity: A Residential Space Designed by Li-Ming Cheng

Combining Modern Atmosphere and Eastern Artistic Conception

This design project presents its main idea by combining the modern atmosphere of magnificent simplicity and eastern artistic conception. Different sections of the space with different functionalities are independent, stable and connected at the same time. It is a healthy residence signifying the lively spirit.

The public area of this residential space is divided into two sections with the hall. The dining space is decorated with sophisticated wood grains that expose a mild ceremonial sense, creating a space for precious family time. The bright and serene living room signifies the wonderful moments of companionship between the houseowner and children, as well as the wife's past music lessons.

The indoor space is adorned with mellow and natural wood veneers, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Eco-friendly paints meeting the F1 standard are used throughout the home, ensuring a healthy living environment. The entire home is installed with high-quality LEDs that have a high color rendering index and low wattage consumption. The accent lighting features MR 16 LEDs with replaceable LED bulbs, reducing waste caused by bulb failure. The installation of T5 LEDs maintains adequate indoor illumination while reducing the usage of lamps.

This residential space spans 194 square meters and was completed in May 2020 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The designers, Li-Ming Cheng and Kang-Hua Lin, aimed to create different scenes within the home that can be used with interaction, flow, and flexibility. The result is a space filled with sweet memories exclusive to the family.

The design team faced the challenge of working with limited resources and the need for environmental protection. To overcome this, they focused on showcasing the essence of space with minimal resources. Rather than using redundant embellishments, they highlighted the delicate texture by utilizing the original qualities and textures of the materials.

This design project, known as Magnificent Simplicity, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The design exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
